Where We’ve Been: READ Career Fair

READ Initiative - Carleton University

On Thursday February 8th, Carleton University’s READ initiative (Research, Education, Accessibility & Design), CDAC (Carleton Disability Awareness Centre)  and EARN partnered to hold a mini-career fair for students and recent graduates interested in careers in the financial sector. Represented at the career fair were employers from financial institutions, and from organizations where opportunities to work in finance also occur i.e. not-for-profits and government.

Thanks are extended to all who participated.
• Employers: Accenture, BMO, Desjardins, CMHC, City of Ottawa, Mortgage Brokers Ottawa, Ottawa Employment Hub, RBC, TD, and United Way Ottawa;
• Dean Mellway, READ and CDAC: for hosting; and
• Students: the 71 students who came well prepared to engage with employers.

EARN had a booth as did Carleton’s CDAC, and we worked together to welcome and orient students. Both employers and job seekers evaluated the event positively and gave feedback around lessons learned that will impact planning for future career fairs. EARN will be holding more sector specific career fairs in the coming months. Stay tuned for further details.
