Maria joined Service Canada in 2017 through LiveWorkPlay an Ottawa-based organization that welcomes and supports people with intellectual disabilities, autistic persons, and individuals with a dual diagnosis to live, work, and play as valued citizens.
Maria is a Support Clerk in the Pensions File Management Centre which holds approximately two million files. She was quickly recognized as a valuable team member, eager to take on new responsibilities, with a keen eye for details and strong work ethic.
“Maria is very helpful and eager to learn,” says Mail and Services Support Clerk Shawn. “She is a very dedicated and committed employee and a great team player.”
Chantal, also a Mail and Services Support clerk, agrees.
“Maria has become a very valuable asset to our team and friend to us all. Her smile is contagious and her disposition friendly. I hope to continue working with such an amazing person.”
“I enjoy working with my team because of the people,” Maria says. “They are always friendly and ready to answer my questions. I also like accomplishing my various tasks, especially filing documents.”
Maria’s job includes:
- receiving daily requests for documents or files from various regions across Canada;
- locating and screening documents or files and preparing them for shipping as well as responding to client inquiries;
- scanning files or documents for ATIP or integrity requests and sending them electronically to the requestor;
- creating and maintaining new client files, updating them in the Pension Workload System (PWS) and adding notes to client electronic files accordingly.
“Maria is always smiling, always willing to help out, very friendly and compassionate,” says Nikki.
“Easily, hands down, one of the kindest people I have ever met,” says Sharon. “She takes a lot of pride in her work, and I know first-hand, just how grateful she is to have become a term employee. I can honestly say, this place would not be the same without her.”
